Job Title: Physician Assistant
Department: Advanced Practice Providers
Reports to: This position reports to the Physician Leader of the
APP team
Supervises: Not applicable
Employment: 1.0 FTE, Monday-Friday expectation with periodic
weekend call
Overtime Status: Exempt
Job Summary:
The purposes of the role are to provide clinical management of
surgical patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings,
assure a coordinated, effective, high quality, and efficient care
process, use an interdisciplinary team approach to the care of
patients, work collaboratively with clinic management on process
improvement projects and provide education to colleagues, staff and
students as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assists with operative cases at all approved hospitals and
ambulatory surgery centers where NWSS physicians maintain surgical
privileges
- In conjunction with Attending surgeons
o Performs bedside procedures
o Assists in rounding on any NWSS patients
o Performs History & Physical and consults
o Evaluates patients in the office
- Investigates and participates in performance improvement
projects
- Assures a coordinated, effective, high quality, and efficient
care process
- Uses an interdisciplinary team approach to the care of
patients
- Works collaboratively with clinic management on process
improvement projects
- Provides education to colleagues, staff and students, as
required
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education: Master's degree in Physician Assisting from an
accredited institution
Certification/Licensing Requirements: Valid State of Oregon
Physician Assistant license; ATLS, ACLS and BLS certified; Valid
DEA certificate
Experience: Five years of experience in a surgical practice
setting, preferred, however new graduates and PAs without surgical
experience will be considered

Additional Abilities & Skills:
Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions, ability to
establish and maintain working relationships with other employees
and the public
Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and
progress
Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
Ability to make decisions and solve problems
Equipment Operated: Medical instruments required for physical exams
and surgery and computer hardware/software.
Work Environment: Well-lit and ventilated, with non-hazardous and
hazardous equipment. Medical office, exam room, operating room and
hospital in-patient settings. Frequent exposure to communicable
diseases and other conditions common to clinic and hospital.
Frequent contact with variety of people/patients.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental
abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with inpatient
and outpatient settings. Standing, sitting, walking, bending,
stooping, twisting. Requires ability to help transfer patients.
Occasional stress from dealing with multiple tasks and tense
patients. Requires full range of motion in all extremities, neck
and back, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination.
