Job Title: Certified Medical AssistantDepartment: ClinicReports to: Clinic Manager Supervises: no one Employment: 40 hours/FTE; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Mon - Fri, with flex late day for coverage Overtime Status: non-exemptJob Summary:The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a patient liaison, helping patients to feel at ease in the clinic, often explaining physician instructions. The CMA escorts patients from the lobby to their exam room, records vitals, reconciles medications and allergies and responds to the needs of patients and clinical support staff for the duration of the patient experience. Primary Responsibilities:Performs patient intake by creating updates, obtaining, documenting patient vitals, reconciling patient medication/allergies and past medical histories in electronic medical record.Assists patients with care needs such as but not limited to: balance assistance, electronic intake forms, transport patient via wheelchair to parking garage/hospital, etc. Cleans exam rooms between patient visits, including but not limited to: disposal of biohazardous materials and sterilization of instruments, removal of any personal items and sanitizing all exposed areas; restocks essential medical supplies between patient visits. Responds directly to provider/nurse needs, including chaperoning, staple/suture removal, assists in minor office procedures and performs sterilization of instruments as needed.Enters orders for diagnostic tests and medications in the electronic medical record as requested, and creates return to work/school letters as needed.Assists providers in maintaining an efficient clinic flow.Maintains confidentiality of patient information and records.Facilitates effective communication with all departments of the Practice. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Education/Certification/Licensing Requirements: Current Medical Assistant Certification, CPR Certification, required; bilingual English/Spanish, a plus Experience: One year of Medical Assistant experience, preferred Qualifications:Must possess an ability to work in a team environmentExcellent verbal and written communication Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact Ability to effectively problem solve (e.g. deescalating highly emotional situations)Knowledge: Knowledge of current guidelines and regulations governing the scope of practice for medical assistantsKnowledge of medical terminologyKnowledge of basic math and modern office procedures. Additional Abilities & Skills: Ability to use spreadsheets and word processing software including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office, including Word, MS Teams, Adobe and appropriate practice management software.Ability to communicate with patients/referring offices by phone Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Prompt and professionalEquipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. Work Environment: Well-lighted medical office. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions related to clinic setting. Work may be stressful due to a busy office. Mental/Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with medical assisting; typically consisting of frequently sitting, standing and walking; using hands to handle or feel; reaching with hands and arms; speaking and hearing, occasionally may be asked to climb or balance.
