Description Creative Director MassMutual MMFA Marketing has committed to a vision of being the trusted marketing partner to our Financial Advisors nationwide. Our ultimate goal is to help our advisor partners stay relevant as customer's needs and market trends evolve while helping them continue to grow their business with MassMutual. As part of this commitment MMFA Marketing is looking for an experienced Creative Director to build-out our first internal collaborative design studio to bring our marketing ideas to life. This role will work with the Head of Design to help assemble a new team that will work across and with multi-disciplinary experts to conceptualize, design, and produce creative solutions that achieve strategic goals for each project and client. Our Creative Director will be a hands-on manager with the ability to oversee all creative work, managing projects from concept to delivery, and assigning tasks to internal and external designers according to marketing team and business priorities. Please note, this is a 'player/coach' role. In ition to orchestrating design efforts across the studio you will be personally using your considerable design skills for approximately 30% of the time. To succeed as our MMFA Creative Director, you should be 'T-shaped' or a generalizing specialist- you posses a wide breadth of experience with deep expertise in specific areas. You understand the power of design and how to it within given parameters. You understand that visual design is only part of crafting a powerful campaign and show appreciation and an open-minded approach when collaborating with other contributors when tackling problems. We will be looking for our Creative Director to work with their team of Art Directors to create, plan and deliver a strategic vision for MassMutuals MMFA Marketing team. In this role you will be involved in helping plan creative efforts, supervising the entire creative process and guiding the team that works under you in our Agile environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with the Head of Design to prioritize projects based on business goals and ROI. Manage a team of Art Directors and oversee the design and development of a wide variety of project types including but not limited to: logo/brand identity, print collateral, website design, digital assets, infographics, pitches, presentations, direct mail, environmental assets, and much more. Review all marketing creative work across channels and brand initiatives to ensure that brand identity is communicated consistently and effectively Work with Head of Design to create a turnkey creative process to streamline the creative workflow. Define and implement processes to ensure cross-functional teams work effectively and collaboratively with our internal Art Directors. Increase efficiencies by continuously developing improvements to processes, tools and infrastructure, and be able to adapt as needs change. Establish communication and approvals protocol between the Design Dept's and the company at large's internal stakeholders. Establish protocol for organizing creative reviews with all necessary stakeholders, consolidating revisions for designers and keeping projects on track. This includes: running the daily scrum, identifying team resources, assigning projects and flagging hurdles within an Agile environment. Develop and manage stakeholder meetings to ensure brand alignment and routine internal communications to keep projects on track. Coordinate project workflow, ticketing, scheduling, and delivery to ensure projects run smoothly. Work with your department's exec lead and directors to build an annual, ground-up budget based on roadmap and milestones including campaigns, production (as necessary), agency executions and technology needs to support creative projects Deliver sprint-based reports on resource use and pipeline, prioritized projects and budget. Work with the Design Depts' individual directors across design, photo, and video to create best practices and schedules for deliverables, timelines, and notifications for all creative requests. Provide guidance and when necessary, course correction to design efforts- be confident and decisive, yet patient enough to help nurture ideas. Identify project risks and prepare solutions and contingency plans. Manage department resources and labor across the internal agency. Work with Marketing as the liaison for briefs and objectives. Work with Head of Design to identify, evaluate and build working agreements with external resources - both contractors and creative firms. Oversee organization of all design deliverables, ensuring that the marketing team has ready access to the graphics or design support they need. Stay informed of design trends and new technologies; in order to provide innovative ideas for design solutions in support of objectives and initiatives. Provide leadership to the design team ensuring the team, culture, capabilities and processes support our strategic objectives and strengthen our brand Influence brand strategy and translate it into a detailed design system, ensuring that all teams follow design guidelines and brand aesthetic REQUIRED SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS: Experience building exceptional brand identity systems, working within established brand systems and executing across print and digital Experience building campaigns and communications for B2C and B2B Strong creative point of view, grounded strategic thinking and highly collaborative. Advanced in print publication design and the print production process- design for manufacturing (DFM). Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. When problems arise, you reliably produce responses and solutions with speed Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite platforms, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Experience with animation is a plus. Intimate understanding of PowerPoint capabilities and creating compelling stories Strong written and verbal communication skills Effective collaborator with a track record of influence with cross-functional teams and comfortable working with all members of the organization, from individual contributors to top execs. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 8+ years of experience independently managing or leading cross-functional project teams in a branding agency, design studio and/or in-house (ideally a mix). Experience working in an Agile environment Experience creating and actively managing integrated timelines and budgets Experience working with Project Management Software (open project numbers, input milestones, critical path and track approval flow, etc.) Detailed knowledge of workflow within a marketing or in-house creative agency A proven track record of successfully managing, developing and mentoring team members 'Plugged into' local design community- established connections with regional firms and production services. Strong ability to build clear SOWs / RFQs with a keen sense of going market rate for services and timelines You have shown your ability to move quickly and comfortably between multiple projects, managing them from start to finish, knowing where they are likely to get stuck and making sure they don't get stuck You have demonstrated an ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team of creative professionals You have proven your talent for managing, mentoring and inspiring a creative team You know and can current creative trends in experiential, digital and direct marketing. You have some web design experience and an excellent understanding of the technical possibilities and limitations of web design A strong creative portfolio that illustrates process, creativity and versatility is required PHYSICAL, TRAVEL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: None to occasional travel as needed.
