JOB SUMMARY
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) serves as (CDO) for all Company in the assigned network and has a close working relationship with the Presidents of the Foundations and Auxiliaries of Company. The position provides consultative support to the Company Office of Philanthropy and works collaboratively with other Networks, Foundations and Departments of Company. Working with the System Vice President of Philanthropy, and other members of the Family of Foundations Executive and Development teams responsible for planning and managing all aspects of fundraising across the Company Family of Foundations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Plans, organizes, manages, and executes all fundraising programs to address the funding priorities set forth by the Hospital(s) and/or the Philanthropy organization. Manages the implementation of the strategic and operational plans for the assigned network: Campaign Management and Administration Tracking and Reporting, Metrics and Measurement, Fiscal Management Communications and Support Service Management. Creates a team-oriented approach to fundraising and the fundraising process by building strong relationships with key stakeholders including medical staff, hospital administrative leaders, volunteers and development staff. Working with the System VP Philanthropy, implement best practice: Prospects identification, cultivation and relationship management strategies Develops physician, caregiver and community campaign targets and tracking systems Implements database and personal contact management systems. Identifies, cultivates and solicits, with the assistance of key volunteers, those individuals, corporations and foundations able to make major/planned gifts or grants both within and across regions and networks. Fosters and develops relationships with attorneys, trust officers, accountants, financial planners and other professionals regarding gift opportunities for their clients. Maintains up-to-date knowledge and expertise on all aspects of philanthropy, including technical details associated with planned gifts and associated tax laws and provide counsel on issues related to fundraising. Represents PH through national forums, conferences, and publications Provides insights and in-service training to co-workers with regard to best practices in healthcare philanthropy including: Recognition keys for identifying major and planned giving prospects Campaign management and administration Researches and prospects management. Works with physicians, retired physicians and hospital staff to help those individuals understand their role in the referral of prospective donors. Helps with identifying grateful patients and coordinate a fully integrated grateful patient program. Provides timely and accurate reports to Hospital Executive Team(s), Foundation staff(s), and Boards and Committees on the short and long-term progress of the development program. Implements Annual Work Plans for each Foundation and Network Creates Quarterly Dashboard and Visual Control reporting systems Measures alignment of Philanthropy Business Plans with VISTA Strategic Plan Installs and trains caregiver on productivity tools that link existing databases. Translates, packages, and articulates the mission, vision and values of the Sisters of Peace and the PeaceHealth System. Develops, manages and maintains system-wide annual solicitations for caregivers, donor acquisition strategies, top donor/investor programs as well as in-hospital stewardship programs. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certification as a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) required AHP Membership required, FAHP Preferred EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: Fifteen (15) years’ experience as a fundraising professional including successful experience in a leadership position. Record of securing six and seven figure gifts. OTHER SKILLS: A demonstrated track record of effective fundraising and broad-based knowledge of development programs Particularly skilled in the steps necessary to enhance development staff production and professional approach to fundraising; provide leadership to each aspect of growing the philanthropic enterprise Display solid understanding of capital campaign planning and implementation Demonstrated Board relations and volunteer development skills and experiences Strong interpersonal skills A tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm, coupled with a strong sense of self, without a strong ego Skilled in verbal and written communications Effective and efficient in managing resources to build and expand a fundraising program, a proactive self-starter who demonstrates initiative SYSTEM PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS: Work requires fairly light physical exertion from up to 65% of the time. Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less. Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation. Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (up to 65% of work time).
